about
I was invited to perform at Joe's Pub in New York as a part of an evening of musicians doing covers related to artist whom had performed at Lilith Fair. I love Erykah Badu and knew she had been a part of that festival. Bag Lady was the last of many of her songs I played through and knew right away I could do my own thing with it. At the point this recording was made I had been performing the song for about a year and a half as an encore. Indeed this live performance was an encore after I had performed my piece Surveillance Punishment and The Black Psyche at The San Francisco Art Institute, as a part of my exhibition Negrogothic. My dear friend Jesse Parsons did live sound and engineered this recording. Over the years Jesse has engineered many of my recordings including Lordship and Bondage: The Birth Of the Negro Superman. I never really reference pop music so this was lots of fun.
